Komali Pozole


Introduction

Komali Pozole is one of the most iconic dishes in Mexican cuisine. Made with hominy, tender pork, and a flavorful broth, this comforting soup is served hot and finished with fresh toppings so everyone can customize their bowl.

Ingredients

Serves: 4–6

  • Precooked hominy
  • Pork (shoulder or leg)
  • White onion
  • Garlic
  • Bay leaf
  • Salt
  • Dried oregano
  • Shredded lettuce or cabbage
  • Radishes, sliced
  • Chopped white onion
  • Lime
  • Chili powder or hot sauce (optional)
  • Komali corn tortillas

Instructions

  1. Place the pork in a large pot with water, onion, garlic, bay leaf, and salt. Cook until the meat is tender.
  2. Add the hominy and simmer until the kernels are fully opened and the broth is well seasoned.
  3. Remove the onion and bay leaf. Adjust seasoning if needed.
  4. Serve the pozole hot and garnish with lettuce, radishes, onion, oregano, and lime to taste.
  5. Serve with Komali corn tortillas.
